Entertaining with some stylish Thanksgiving decorations

Guest post written by Alexa Singer

'm a big believer in the whole entertaining experience. It's just so much more interesting when you're not only filling up on delicious food, but you're also taking in lots of attractive sights. I always like to keep my home decorated really nicely anyway, so it's only natural that I do it even more during the holidays. I'm hosting our extended family's vacation this year and I'm pulling out all of the stops for it.

I find a lot of inspiration for my decorations by looking online. When I was looking online not that long ago to find some cute decorations, I ran across some info on clear tv bundle packages and after that I decided to change over my home internet service to one of those packages.

Just part of my stylish Thanksgiving dŽcor includes some mini pumpkins that I'm using to decorate the dining room table. I also found some coordinating plates on sale a few months back that I knew would be perfect for a Thanksgiving celebration, so I got those to put out too.

Skywatch Season 5, Episode 18...

Skies from all over our planet...

Skywatch Friday is a fun meme where a couple hundred people, from all over the world, post pictures of the sky on their personal blogs. Each one of those people has really cool content too, not just pictures. Go to Skywatch and click on any one of the little pictures.
Leave that blogger a comment. Make a friend and see some of the world!

Bil Keane - Part of My Family Circus...

Sad news. Bil Keane passed away yesterday.
Bil Keane wrote The Family Circus comic strip, a neat, fun and sometimes thought provoking comic.
My favorites were the ones where you  followed the dotted lines to see where the character had been and what they've done. I loved The Family Circus, mostly because I could understand it even before I could read. I loved looking at the pictures whether I could read the captions or not.
But I think the most notable thing about The Family Circus, aside from its basis on Keane's own family, is that Keane was a self taught cartoonist. I loved the minimal-ness of the drawings, the simple bodies and faces. As lean as they were, those pictures told a wonderful story with very little text. I know that is the whole idea of a cartoon, but to my mind, Bil Keane did it much better than most.
Good night, Mr Keane.

tilden's house...

Penny and Eugene
Eugene loves Penny even though she is a dog. Eugene does not discriminate. Penny has a soft spot for Eugene too, he's the first cat in her life who hasn't been mean to her. They make a nice couple.

Women of Faith, Hartford November 11 - 12, 2011...

Women of Faith rolls into Hartford,Connecticut at the XL Center, November 11 and 12, 2011.

My friends from church talk about the amazing experiences they have each year at the Women of Faith conference. I've never been. I am intrigued though, so I'm going to take a ride down there and check it out.
I'm taking my friend Margaret with me and we get to camp out in a hotel room for a couple of nights and revel in the spectacle that is Women of Faith.

So, what is Women of Faith?
I asked the church ladies and I got different responses from all of them. Each lady had a different perspective and expectation of the event. I was most curious about what each of these women took with them from the event and how they apply what they learned to their daily lives. Not one of them could be completely specific. They told me stories dealing more with feelings and connections than with concrete facts. My church friends dealt with feelings of loss and despair, powerlessness and usefulness. They also experienced feelings of being uplifted, fulfilled and finding direction and encouragement, through women's groups, small group study and service to the community.
The Women of Faith conference absolutely connected my friends with other women who felt loss, despair or powerlessness. Each woman I spoke to revealed that they came away from Women of Faith encouraged to grow in their faith, spirituality and maturity through a personal relationship with Jesus and a fuller understanding of God's grace and love. While their daily trials and troubles were not instantly solved, each lady came home with hope, a fuller understanding of her role in her family, church and community and most importantly, a sense of peace.
I'm off to see what I can discover at Women of Faith. I'll be blogging and tweeting and probably facebooking.
Check me out!

Yes, one month. it's a personal challenge, participants win nothing but bragging rights. I'm ok with that. To finish on time, one must write 1,667 words each day. Two days in, I'm up to 223 words...Wish me luck!
